The people and activities of Beechy’s Coteau Hills are as diverse as the landscape itself. On the short drive to the Sandcastles, Sunken Hill, or Snakebite Coulee, or the Magnesium Sulphate Lake, there is a very good chance you’ll see a cow moose with her twin calves, or a herd of elk that numbers near one hundred. Deer, antelope, coyotes, foxes, and of course, gophers, are plentiful. There have also been wolf and bobcat sightings. The Golden Eagles that nest along Lake Diefenbaker are just one of the feathered species that can be seen by keen observers. Bring along your boat, go for a swim or catch a fish.

Dreams are fashioned at the local school play days as young people think of joining the Beechy Breakers baseball team or one of the hockey teams. Curling and golf are also seasonal offerings.

The cowboy influence of the area is evident on the last full weekend of September when the cowboys and cowgirls arrive for Beechy Western Days. This rodeo is unique in that following the long go rounds of Friday and Saturday evenings, the top performers return for the finals on Sunday. Travel east of Beechy to Demaine, a friendly hamlet, also in the R.M. of Victory. A major fundraiser is held in Demaine each February with the proceeds donated to Telemiracle.

If you continue east, the Riverhurst Ferry will beckon you to take a ride on Saskatchewan’s widest ferry crossing. The craft is a toll free 18-car ferry that serves the area 24 hours a day. The ferry makes half hourly crossings of Lake Diefenbaker, departing on the half hour from the north and on the hour from the south. In the winter a safe ice crossing is laid out and maintained by the Saskatchewan Department of Highways.

There are many talented artisans in the area so whether you are looking for a saddle to put on your favorite horse, some jewellery for your wrist, to have your piano tuned, or to have your schooldays vehicle restored, you will find someone here who can fill your request….and that just identifies a fraction of a very long list of the skilled personnel.

There’s affordable housing in our friendly community and serviced lots available. With vision and imagination, the opportunities at Beechy are endless.
